Preparing a Home Gym for your Laurel Movers
If you are the sporty type then there is little surprise in that you might have a home gym that you want to move with the rest of your things to your new home. The disadvantage with this item is the weight, as weight plays a part in calculating the overall total of your Laurel moving company’s estimate. However, since time is also a factor, it’s an idea to cut that by packing your home gym equipment away yourself before the movers get there.
Of course, gym equipment is different to any item of furniture that you might have to disassemble and pack away. One of the major selling points of a weights machine, for example, is that it is light. The weights themselves, however, are a different matter and it is very important that they are packed securely for the journey as they could easily break a toe, if not a leg, should they fall on anyone.
Find Suitable packing Equipment
If you can, get the original boxes that any weights machines came in, and read any instruction manuals that you might still have. This will help to refresh your memory as to how many items there are, from the main frame to the last bolt under the seat - everything is important.
Disassemble the Machine Carefully
From the very start, be careful. If you’ve been using the machine much then you probably already know it inside out; in fact, you probably assembled it after you bought it. Still, there is always a reason to be careful. So, don’t rush matters. Remove each individual weight slowly and place them gently to one side on their backs.
Bag the Bolts!
Plastic kitchen bags or sandwich bags are perfect for this kind of thing, but it is also worth writing things down in detail on some paper and slipping the paper into the bag too. Identify everything so you can keep track when you reassemble the machine at your new home. If there are six bolts, don’t write ‘6 bolts’ but where each bolt belongs. Trust us, it makes life a lot easier at the other end!
Label Clearly
It sounds obvious but really it can’t be stressed enough. Label clearly! While the nuts and bolts are small and need a bag, larger parts like arms, seats and bars also need to be identified. Take note of everything and even use color stickers to match parts.
Secure Loose Ends
Once the weights come off, there can be some draw back to the cords and wires used to hold them. If they dangle and sway, they can prove to be more hassle to your Laurel movers than you’d imagine. So, use tape to secure them firmly to the frame.
Use Strong Boxes
You are going to need extra strong boxes for the weights. It’s a good idea to secure what boxes you do have with tape and cardboard. It may be an idea to double-box them by fitting one box into another (if possible!). Pack all the weights of a machine together – don’t mix them. And, very importantly, don’t over pack them. Remember that your Laurel movers – strong though they might be - will have to lift and carry them.
Of course, if you have an item of equipment that is simply too big, then you may have to look to specialist gym movers. Check out the costs with the Laurel moving company that you want to hire, but also shop around. There may be better deals.
