Preparing Pictures and Frames for your Gaithersburg Movers
Your home probably has a multitude of pictures, photographs and paintings placed caringly on the walls. With different sized frames and some with glass fronts and some without, you may be wondering how to pack them all. With some that may be valuable, you may wonder how to ensure they are not damaged in any way while in transit.
Your Gaithersburg moving company will certainly want to move them without any mishaps occurring but, for your own peace of mind, you’ll want to pack them yourself. Well, we’ve compiled this short list of things to do to prepare your pictures and paintings, complete with frames, for the lengthy journey to your new home.
Large Picture Frames
You can have a variety of frame sizes and, of course, some of them can be quite expensive or decoratively designed. These are frames that you’ll want to protect so it is important to wrap them properly. For these larger frames, you will need suitably large boxes to pack them in. There are boxes available on the market that are specifically designed for frames and can carry more than one frame at a time. Ask your moving company before the move if they have what you need; in all likelihood they will.
Wrap it Well
The wrapping part is very important and you’ll need plenty of bubble-wrap for this. It’s best to wrap the frame as if you are wrapping a birthday gift, covering every piece of the picture and frame, and especially the corners. Since the corner can sometimes tear through the wrapping and expose itself to possible chipping, it may be an idea to reinforce the corner with some tape. Once all of that is done, place the frame into the box and seal the box properly with tape. Don’t forget to label it correctly, complete with ‘This Way Up’ arrows for clarity.
Small Picture Frames
For the smaller, table-sized picture frames (those used mainly for family snaps) the whole packing process is much easier. You can still use bubble-wrap, although paper is just as effective on this size. Wrap each frame generously and place them flat into a box. Depending on the size of the box used, you should be able to fit 10 to 15 frames in but when they have been laid inside, pack the edges with some more paper to ensure they get to their destination unharmed. The seal the box and label the contents clearly.
Picture Inventory
It has been pointed out before that inventories are extremely important when moving home and that every necessary detail should be included on it. It is no different for pictures and frames, with a list of pictures used to check off the safe arrivals. You should also note where each picture came from, and label them accordingly. You’d be surprised how often you’ve walked passed a painting only to notice it for the first time when you have to actually handle it. So note whether a picture came from a beach, or mountain or is of people.
Pictures, whether they are fine art of picture prints, can make a room complete so they have to be considered important items to move. Preparing them, complete with frames, for the journey is equally important. Check out our customer service desk if you have any further queries; our support team will be only be too glad to help.
