Packing Crystal for your Gaithersburg Movers

One of the most attractive things that a home can have is a display of crystal bowls and glasses in the living or dining room. It can add that homey yet classy feeling to your place. But Crystal items are not cheap and so it is only understandable that you should want to move them with the knowledge that they will safely reach their destination. Your Gaithersburg movers will take care of all your possessions, but it is perhaps best for you given the expense to have done the packing yourself. We’ve put together a list of crystal items you may have and the best way to prepare them for the move.

Crystal Bowls

Often it’s a fruit bowl and so is fairly large but sometimes they can be smaller. Regardless of their size, they need to be wrapped with the same care. Use soft packing paper rather than the course type, which would only scratch the glass. You’ll need to fill the globe of the bowl with the paper, though this can be ordinary newspaper, but be sure to wrap around the rim with the soft paper, securing it with a little tape. Place the bowls carefully into the box it will be transported in, on a bed of packing, but at the top of the box, not at the bottom. Use some bubble-wrap to further cushion at the top, taping it to the inside of the lid.

Crystal Glasses

As with all crystal pieces each one should be wrapped separately. When it comes to glasses, the most effective way of doing this is to use cell boxes, which has a cardboard grid inside, into which each glass can be placed. Preparing the glasses is simply done, with soft paper once again being used against the surface to protect it, though other paper can be used to pack the globe or interior of the glass, if necessary. Remember, place the glass on its side in a corner of the sheet of paper and then roll the paper around it. Stuff the end parts into the inside of the glass and then place upright in one of the cells in the box. There should be plenty of support to protect the glass from any impact.

Crystal Candlesticks

Candlesticks can be a little tricky due to the awkward shape they can sometimes be. However, they are generally sturdier than glasses or bowls and so can lie without much worry on the base of a box - provided that nothing of any great weight is above it. Other glasses or bowls should be fine. However, be sure to wrap it well, using the soft paper but also reinforce it with plenty of bubble wrap.

Crystal Ornaments

These tend to be quite small pieces and certainly they will need to be carefully dealt with. Again, wrap each item individually in soft paper and bubble wrap (it can’t do any harm) but perhaps you can place them together in a smaller box, which in turn can be placed into the bigger box. This extra security can prove to be all the difference.

It is very important that all items are treated with care, especially crystal items. Be sure to mark the box they are placed in as ‘fragile’ and ‘handle with care’ so that your Gaithersburg movers know what is inside.
