Packing your kids’ toys for your Bethesda Movers

It is probably true that the big things get moved first when a family decides it’s time to make a change in where they live. It’s the smaller items that are generally left until the final days to organise which, as no doubt your Bethesda movers will tell you, can often result in some things getting lost in the whole operation. When it comes to your children’s toys, mislaying something can result in a lot of unnecessary heartache.

So, it’s as important as anything else to get a grip on the packing of your children’s toys. We’ve put together a guide to preparing your kids things – toys that is! – for the move.

Delegate the Task

You probably don’t relish the idea of entering your child’s bedroom and trying to sort out every little doll or plastic soldier that is lying around the room so it’s a good idea to ask your kid to do the organising, albeit under a watchful eye. But make sure that this is done in plenty of time before your Bethesda movers arrive; perhaps with a month to go. Moving home can be an exciting time for them, so your kids will relish the idea of being part of such a big thing. Tell them their room is their ‘big job’ and that all the toys need to be organised. Stuffed animals go with stuffed animals, soldiers go with the soldiers, toy vehicles go together too. Once that is done, you’ll be in a better position to see what has to be moved. Then, make a check list so that you can keep track of everything that needs to be packed away.

Small Toys

Small toys may take up a little space but the mountain of small objects can make it very difficult to pack away in any really organised fashion. Usually, the original packing is gone but most of these types of toys are durable. You don’t have to use bubble-wrap here (unless you feel it is really necessary) but plenty of paper wrapped around each individual toy should suffice. Place them into a smaller sized box (not too big), ensure it’s tightly packed and that nothing is rattling around.

Board Games

These are probably the easiest to pack since they should be in their original boxes and you should be able to stack them relatively cleanly into their container. The problem of course is the particular game’s pieces, rattling or falling out of the box. Well, simple seal the lid onto the base with some tape to make sure nothing falls out. Of course, make sure you’ve checked on the contents are all there before you do so. Find one moving box to pack as many of these board games into but always be aware of weight.

Remote Control Toys

These are trickier since there are more components to worry about. Hopefully, you will have kept the original boxes for them but if you haven’t then you’ll have to carefully label each piece and wrap them individually. The vehicle itself will be bulkier and perhaps the bubble wrap will serve the purpose well; you don’t want wheels, doors, knobs or antennae breaking while in transit. Place the vehicle onto a bed of scrunched up paper in the moving box and carefully pack around it, placing the remote unit and any other items belonging to it around it.

Stuffed Animals

These are the easiest to pack and should be the last to worry about. Smaller animals can be put together in a bag or box (perhaps even used as cushioning for other items) while the larger ones may need to be placed in bags. Since they are unbreakable, they can fall around in the moving truck but that doesn’t mean they won’t be damaged, so it’s always better to bag them at least.

Of course, with all of the boxes and bags, be sure to label them clearly with ‘Small Toys’ or ‘Stuffed Animals’ written on their side. Moving home is a stressful time for everyone, not least for a child who fears his favourite toy may not be seen again. But if you follow the simple steps above, it can all run perfectly smoothly.
