My Baltimore move made easy with relocation consulting
I never really pictured moving out of Baltimore; it’s not that I was closed to the idea of starting a life elsewhere. There just wasn’t a pressing need to move anywhere else. When my promotion came through and I was asked to move to the company’s Boston office to be part of an exiting new division, I really didn’t think twice about accepting. At first I thought it would just be a matter of hiring a good Baltimore moving company, and getting relocated to my new home when the time came. The reality of how my life would be altered by the move only really dawned on me in the weeks that followed.
I was surprised to find that the company was not going to give me any help at all with my move. When I asked my boss about it he just chuckled and told me that with the kind of money the company would be paying me when I started my job in Boston, I could easily afford to hire not just good professional Baltimore movers, but that I could also get some relocation consulting. I was all for the idea from the time it was suggested. By that time it had already occurred to me that relocating my wife and our three kids to a whole other state was going to be incredibly complicated and that I was going to need all the help I could get.
I still didn’t know exactly how a relocation consultant fit into my move, but I had never been to Boston except on holiday several years before, neither my wife nor I, had either friends or family there; so I was desperate for help and feeling a bit overwhelmed by the imminent move. I called a relocation consultant almost as soon as my boss left the room. To this day, I believe that decision changed my life. What I learned that day was that a relocation consultant helps you with as many aspects of a move as you can think of, from the time you first have an inkling that you need to move, till you are well an truly permanently settled into you new home.
The first thing my relocation consultant did was to help me find a good place to move to in the Boston area; as it turns out, relocation consultants are networked with realtors all over that country. We found a great deal on a property just 10 miles out of Boston, in a great neighborhood, the catch was it was a lot with no house on it. My wife though had always wanted to build a house from scratch as she always fancied herself a bit of a frustrated architect. No problem for our relocation consultant; they found us a nice place to rent near our property while building our new home.
This gave rise to a new problem though: how to afford to build the new house while paying rent on an apartment. Once again, our relocation consultant found a suitable solution: though their network of realtors, they were able to find a buyer for our Baltimore home, this along with the added income from my new job easily allowed us to build our home and afford the rent on our temporary accommodations. There was yet another problem though, it meant vacating our Boston home and relocating all our furniture on very short notice. Although our new house would easily accommodate all the furniture we had handpicked over the years, the apartment we temporarily stayed in simply wouldn’t. It was then that our relocation consultant brought a removal specialist into the picture.
I didn’t even know that it was possible to have someone take furniture out of your house and store it for you safely and inexpensively until you have need of it again. On moving day or in our case on the moving days, our relocation consultants got us a great deal on a top notch Baltimore mover, and in fact the Baltimore moving company gave us a discounted rate for coursing the move through a consultant. It has been three years since I first talked to my relocation consultant, since then I have built my dream home, I have moved my family into it, and we have built a great life in Boston. There is no doubt in my mind that relocation consulting made this possible.
