How relocation consulting saved my Annapolis move

I’ve only moved once in my life, but if I ever need to do it again, I would never dream of doing so without getting some relocation consulting first, perhaps from a relocation consulting firm, or maybe even from Annapolis movers directly. The one and only time I have ever moved, I had the good fortune of being referred to a relocation consultant. They more than just set me up with a great Annapolis moving company, they held my hand through the whole process. I still can’t imagine how I could have moved without them.

The day I found out I had to move out of Annapolis was a strange one for me. On the one hand, I was exited because I had just been promoted; on the other hand I had never been away from Annapolis for very long, worse still I had never moved before. When the reality of what a hassle this relocation would be hit me, I was more depressed than happy. I wished I could just fall asleep and wake up in my new home with all the furniture unpacked and arranged; with the whole logistical nightmare as just a bad memory.

Reality is never so convenient. For starters I didn’t even know where my new home would be. I knew what town I needed to relocate to in New Jersey, but I’d never even been there. Second, I just couldn’t imagine leaving the house which had been my family’s home for the last 10 years. I had actually just finished paying for it. That was when a friend suggested that I see a relocation consultant. I actually almost put it off, I thought it might be better to see about where I would live in New Jersey before talking to any moving companies in Annapolis; however, planning the trip out to Jersey took some doing so I wound up talking to a relocation consultant first. I was so glad I did.

What I didn’t know before then was that relocation consultants actually network with realty companies all over the country. The first thing they helped me take care of was finding a place to live in New Jersey. They saved me a lot of trips to Jersey and a lot of time as well. I didn’t really have the resources to buy a place though, so they found me a nice house to rent. It was a bit out of my budget, but that wasn’t a problem, because the relocation consultant also put me in touch with a realty company in Annapolis which in turn found a nice family willing to lease my home on a long term basis.

They then hooked me up with some really good Annapolis moving companies. I was surprised to learn that Annapolis movers actually give better rates when contacted by relocation consultants as opposed to direct clients. They helped me go over all the quotations I received and make a decision.

I told my consultant that I eventually planned to move back to Annapolis, if not soon, then simply to retire there. I learned I could actually opt to keep a lot of my stuff in storage in Annapolis instead of taking it with me to New Jersey. Some of my larger items were taken away by a removal company and are safely stored away till I have need of them again.

On the move itself the consultant was patient and informative. The differences among Annapolis moving companies were explained to me. I learned that my Annapolis home actually came with moving insurance and that it provided for good replacement value coverage. I never would have known that had I done everything on my own. I never regretted spending the extra money on the relocation consultant. My move was a big one, and in the end, the savings in time, and energy more than made up for it and; because I was guided into making all the right moves, I probably actually saved a lot of money too.
